I was wrong yesterday. When I said we probably wouldn’t stay until the park closed at 11 pm? Totally wrong. We were walking out as the park closed. Then we took a wrong turn on the monorail (who knew you couldn’t get a Disney resort bus at the ticket & transportation center?) and didn’t get back to our room until about midnight. So, in the past two nights I’ve had a total of eight hours of sleep, and I’m feeling it.
Still, some things are worth getting up for! My alarm went off at 5:45 this morning, and I actually got out of bed and into the shower. Our goal was to leave the resort at 6:15, although I think it was a bit later. We walked to Hollywood Studios, in a misty rain, for the Early Extra Magic Hour. And it was insane! There was a hugely long line to get into the park, which we accomplished around 6:45, and then they held everyone on Hollywood Boulevard until 7:00 park opening. At 7:00, everyone got on their phones to try to score boarding passes for the brand new (less than two weeks?) Rise of the Resistance ride, and I was successful! We were in boarding group 57, which I estimated, based on previous days’ activity, would be called around noon.
We followed the horde of humanity back to Galaxy’s Edge to get in line for the Millennium Falcon ride, which is not on a Fast Pass system yet either, but also no boarding groups. When we joined the line, the app said it was about a 60-minute wait, so we were about where we had been yesterday first thing. The line moved very quickly, but the new Galaxy’s Edge area is so amazing I was a bit sad I couldn’t walk slowly and experience it more fully. I did take some time for a few pictures!
The line wound around the land, and as we got closer to the ride, we could see the Millennium Falcon! And then, CHEWBACCA CAME OUT TO INSPECT THE SHIP. Right. There. In front of me!
The six-year-old inside of me has not stopped screaming.
Then, because it’s Disney, and there’s magic here, I got to go inside the Millennium Falcon. And fly in space.
I really don’t have words for how amazing that was.
The girls rode Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Roller Coaster, but I skipped them for the sake of non-nausea, and I did some shopping. At that point, it was time to go to Oga’s Cantina, which I worker really hard to get reservations to. And it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was perfect, and Francesca’s drink bubbled the whole time we were there. I’d love to go back sometime when it’s not mobbed.
And then, because it’s Disney, and there’s magic here, I got to go on a ride that was even more amazing. Our Rise of the Resistance boarding group was called before noon. We probably snaked through the line for half an hour before we rode, which is not bad at all. And then we had a 20-minute adventure. This thing was a whole story. We went into one room and received instructions from Rey. Something about the Resistance, but it wasn’t about the story for me.
Then we went outside and got into a transport, but then there was some trouble with The First Order, and we were put in a holding cell, but then the Resistance was there and it was crazy, and a BB-5 unit drove us around and nearly got us killed. And Kylo Ren is not that nice.
But in the end we lived to tell the tale.
Seriously, this is like a whole new level of amusement park rides. And I can’t wait to see how the competition responds.
After that we walked around Galaxy’s Edge some more until it was time to see the Indiana Jones show, which was quite a production. Before the show we decided that after the show we’d head back to the resort for lunch, and that was a good call because it was raining hard at that time. We took the new Skyliner to the back entrance to Epcot and then walked back.
Lunch was at a brewery (the girls chose it, really!), and now the girls are back at the park while I get ready to nap. Dinner tonight at Hollywood Studios, and then a fun 10 pm show, with dessert reservations again!
And maybe a slightly earlier night?
