In December I posted about booking a trip to Las Vegas in the fall with my sister. That trip was supposed to be today. It isn’t happening.
My sister got COVID. And she lost her sense of hearing. I’d never heard about hearing loss being a symptom of COVID, but apparently it’s one of the less common ones. No sense in going to see Donny sing if you can’t hear him!
I cancelled the hotel reservation and flights, and I made a claim on the travel insurance policy I purchased on the tickets. That was a week ago, and I haven’t heard back from the insurer yet, except for a message saying they’re behind and will get back to me. Hopefully I can use the credit with Southwest before it expires.
This current surge is really making me sad. Just when we thought things were getting better, they managed to get worse. In that December post, I wrote, ”I work for a hospital system (but am not a medical worker), and this week the first front-line workers received immunizations! Between that and the public discussions of likely reaching herd immunity by mid- to late-summer, I felt comfortable booking a September trip.” That was some misguided belief right there.
On a positive note, I just booked a spring break trip . . .
