I realized today that I never posted about our last day in Louisville and our trip home! It’s because once you get home from a trip, there are too many things to do. Unloading, unpacking, laundry, work . . .
Still, our last day in Louisville was too great to go without mentioning. We slept in, for I think the first time in the whole trip. Then, we took our time packing up the room before checking out and heading to Waterfront Park to do Madeline’s training run. Instead of running in the park, we decided to take the Big Four Bridge, a pedestrian/bike bridge that crosses the Ohio River into Jeffersonville, Indiana. There’s a very long ramp that leads up to the bridge, and we walked up that, then started her training jog once we got to the top. The workout was essentially just a warm-up and a cool down, with stretching in the middle and at the end. We stopped about halfway across the bridge and stretched, then jogged the rest of the way. Her timed jog took us almost exactly to the bottom of the ramp on the Indiana side.
There are several restaurants within about a block of the bottom of the ramp, but right across the street was a place with pizza and beer and a nice outdoor seating area, and we chose that one. It was a gorgeous day, windy, but really nice for eating outside. Madeline built a Jenga tower while we waited for our food. We had amazing breadsticks, pizza, and beer, and then walked back across the bridge.
After our walk we stopped at a Louisville store called Work the Metal, which was like six or seven stores in one, and Madeline bought an adorable stuffed unicorn. Then we picked up our glasswork from Saturday, which was gorgeous! And then we hit the road home. The drive was not great — really busy with two long slow-downs — but we made it in a couple hours, and safely.
It was great being home, but it was also a really great trip. Lots of time with Madeline, some fun activities, but not so much action that we returned exhausted. I highly recommend Louisville for a long weekend, or even a week trip. We didn’t even have a chance to visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Louisville Slugger Museum, or the Louisville Zoo. And I would have liked to taste some bourbon while we were there.
