The longer the COVID situation goes on, the more I miss traveling. Before March I knew that I loved to travel, but I don’t think I realized until recently how I actually need it. Travel feeds my soul. And we don’t even have to go far. Something about getting away is just like a balm to my nerves.
My older daughter has a Monday off coming up. My other daughter was supposed to be in school that day, but today the school announced it’s adding a teacher in-service day on the same day. Teaching during COVID is a challenge. Who am I kidding? Teaching is a challenge, but one most of the school’s teachers have come to understand. Teaching during COVID is an additional challenge that they’re all getting used to, and the Head of School wisely scheduled this day for them to plan, collaborate with colleagues, and maybe (hopefully!) sleep in.
I started thinking about a weekend getaway. Nowhere too far away, since we can’t leave until after dance rehearsal on Saturday. There are some great state parks near here, so I looked into my favorite state park inn, The Abe Martin Lodge at Brown County State Park, and there was a cabin available. I couldn’t believe it. We will be at the very beginning of leaf season, so it’s not peak time there, but still, with everyone doing outdoor activities this year, I really didn’t expect anything to be available. I texted Andrew, who was on board, and I booked the cabin!
I haven’t told the girls yet. I hope they’re excited. Either way, I am!
