Summer Vacation 2020 – Day Three

Tuesday, July 14, 2020

Today we went into the city. Chattanooga. Which is a lot smaller than I expected. I think it’s probably bigger than population figures show, because its suburbs continue into Georgia. So the metropolitan area may be significantly bigger than its official population.

It was another gorgeous morning to walk the dog, with more gorgeous views of Lookout Mountain.

After a breakfast of biscuits and apple butter, we left the house for the Chattanooga waterfront. We parked at the Aquarium, and Madeline was sad that we couldn’t go. But we’re doing only outdoor activities this week.

We walked beside the river to the art museum and the art district. We grabbed some iced drinks before starting over the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge across the river. It was not a long walk, but it was HOT. Ellie was really hoping for a smoothie, so we grabbed one at a nearby coffee shop. It just kept getting hotter, so after a quick stop in a clothing store, where both girls found some new pieces, and at a park, we started back across the bridge. Ellie and I walked it, and Andrew and Madeline rented bike share bikes and rode across.

We ate lunch at the shaded outdoor patio of a brewpub and then called it a day. We had more pool time, picked up food at a couple local restaurants (why can my children never agree on dinner?), and are watching The Princess Bride. Again, I’m exhausted. The sun and heat are taking it out of all of us.
