The Ghosts of June 1 Past

Usually, looking back on pictures from previous years for any given day brings me a lot of joy. My kids look cuter and younger, I remember parties and times with friends and people I love. But this week, it’s been hard. Looking back at adventures knowing there aren’t any more on the foreseeable horizon.

I am very privileged, and this is very much a first world problem. But it’s still making me down. (Not to mention everything else that’s going on in the world right now.)

A year ago, we were snorkeling in Alaska.

Two years ago, my older daughter graduated from eighth grade in a traditional ceremony with a well-attended reception afterward.

And three years ago today, we were beginning our 10-week adventure in Europe.

In 2013 we were visiting my best friend in Michigan. In 2012 we were at Holiday World in southern Indiana. (The picture at the top of this post is another of my favorites in the world, and it’s from a very cold day at Holiday World.)

So, the pictures are bittersweet. But we will travel again!
