Yesterday I was on the phone with my dad and caught myself about to tell him that our calendars are full. Of course they aren’t! What is actually true is that our to-do lists are full. Very full.
For starters, we all are still working and attending school, albeit all of it from our house. I am so, so grateful that we still have jobs. And I think the girls’ schools are hitting out of the ballpark with e-learning. But these things take a lot of time. We don’t see much of one another before five o’clock on weekdays. The ten-year-old is also still having dance lessons online four or five evenings a week and guitar lessons online once a week. Add in an occasional online Girl Scout meeting, and that’s a lot to do.
Plus we’ve been working on painting the girls’ rooms. Both are nearly done. Madeline should get back in today. She’s been sleeping in the living room for about a month, and right now all of the furniture from her room is smushed into the middle of the room so we can paint around the outsides of it. I’ll be glad to get her back into a bed and her bedroom and have my living room back.
Unfortunately, we ran out of paint for Ellie’s room one wall into the second coat. So we’ve ordered more, and it will be here in a few days. Her furniture is also in the middle of her room, but she’s been able to sleep in there, even without any curtains. I think the second gallon of paint we ordered is supposed to arrive this week, so she should be back to normal by the time next weekend is over.
Also, the screened porch project is going well. The picture below is the current state. It’s exciting that the roof is shingled and done! We hired out the work, of course, but we’ve had some decisions to make. We’ve ordered a large outdoor rug and cushions for the chairs, which was a whole-family decision. We’ve decided we’re going to oil the outdoor table and chairs so they stay looking a little nicer. We’ve had to choose the look and the colors and the fan light and the wall light. Fun stuff, but still lots of to-dos.
And then there’s all the other stuff. Meal planning and grocery shopping and cooking. Normal cleaning and deep cleaning since our cleaning service has suspended residential operations. Dealing with the mail every day. When you’re home 24/7, you notice all the little things that you might not have caught as you rushed to get ready to go somewhere. I’m cleaning out my office. I need to clean the drains. My boots need to be polished before I put them away for the summer. And our pantry could really use some organizing. There’s more to do, but it’s kind of exhausting thinking about it all together.
The good news is that yesterday I finished two projects I’ve been working on for YEARS. But since I have so much to do, I’ll blog about those tomorrow.
